Collage Wall

Happy Wednesday or if you are me Happy Friday!  Yes that's right.  I'm Cape bound for a 4 day weekend in honor of the 4th!  Today I'm sharing my DIY Collage Wall that is in my living room.  I hope you enjoy!

One night a few weeks ago my mom was over my apartment.  I can't even remember why now. . . Probably to help me clean or organize stuff for one of my many fundraisers.  Whatever the reason, little did she know that I spontaneously decided I wanted to do a collage wall in my living room.  I had been wanting to do one for a long time but just hadn't gotten around to it.  Honestly I'm not very good at hanging things evenly spaced from one another and she is, so as long as I have her around she will be my official picture hanger!

So I grabbed a few things I wanted to hang and laid them out on the floor.  Then we got started!

Once I had already taken everything from "before" off of my wall I realized I hadn't taken a before photo.  I literally asked my mom if we could put everything back but considering we had already started hanging new things she thought it was too late.  She doesn't understand the life of a blogger! Haha!

Fortunately for all of you I had this old photo in my picasa (side note: if you aren't using picasa to organize your photos your should be - it is the best)!  So this photo isn't the greatest quality but you get the idea.  I had a few random things throw up there and while it looked ok it was nothing special!

So not only did I forget to take a "before" photo but I also forgot to take "during" photos.  I suck at these DIY posts.  So all you get is the final version!  Once I had a few things laid out on the floor we got to work.  I knew I wanted the Red Sox thing in the center due to it being one of the bigger items.  So we worked off of that finding things that worked well around it.

I didn't want it to be too uniform or symmetrical on either side so I had to find a few non square/rectangle shaped things.  That is when I did a walk around my apartment and found several more things I HAD to include.  Word of advice - find everything you want to include first!  I found the Magners clock, the letter J and the Red Sox B which all seemed like good odd shaped items to include.  I also wanted to include some other red colored items to tie the whole thing together.

I really love the way it came out.  I still need to print new photos for the green polka dot frame and the flip flop frame (I can't choose what to put in there) and I could even see myself my mom adding a couple more things in the future!  Check out the rest of the photos below for some different views and close ups!

What do you think?  Did we do a good job?

I only wish I had a bigger apartment so I could hang even more photos!  I have SO many travel photos that I've taken and several paintings/prints I've purchased while traveling.  They need a home!  I hope someday I'll have a house with plenty of space to display everything!

  1. Looks awesome! I too am terrible at hanging collage walls so I feel your pain. You guys did a great job.

  2. Great job! I love that it still has room to go, but it fine as it is too.

  3. You def need to include an Italy photo in the frame you need to fill!

  4. Wow that looks really great!

  5. It looks really great! I like the way you incorporated things that have meaning.
