Christmas Wish List

In honor of Black Friday I thought I would share my Christmas Wish List.  You won't find me out fighting the crowds today.  If I do any shopping it will be online!

Top Row (From left to right)

Nordstrom Mixed Media Roll Sleeve Top (Small, Black)
This is Sheaffer's favorite shirt and I've had my eye on it for a while now.  I need a good basic black shirt so I'm hoping I like this one as much as she does!

Nordstrom Roll Tab Sleeve Pullover Shirt (Medium, White)
This is another recommendation from Sheaffer and it sounds like exactly what I'm looking for in a white blouse.  I hard a hard time finding button downs that fit me well and this one has some stretch to it so I think it will be prefect!

Book: The Fault in Our Stars
I've read great reviews of this book and I can't wait to read it!

The Magic Bullet
I live in a small apartment with an even smaller kitchen.  I need this b/c not only is it small and compact but it can make smoothies plus it has so many other uses. I love gadgets that are multi-purpose!

EOS Organic Lip Balm
I need these lip balms. They are the best!  I love all the fruity flavors!

Middle Row (From left to right)

Alex and Ani Bracelets:  Everything Happens For A Reason, Boston Red Sox Cap Logo (Silver)
I want about 10 of these bracelets right now but these 2 are on the top of my list.

Micheal Kors Two Toned Watch
I've always wanted an MK watch and someday I'll own one. Until then it will stay on my wish list!

The Original "Boston Strong" Shirt (Adult Small)
I've been wanting one of these since April and I never got around to ordering one.  I need one to wear in support of all the marathon victims and of course for when I go to the marathon in 2014!

Bath and Body "Fireside" Works 3-Wick Candle
I love this scent and since I don't have a fireplace it would be a great addition to my apartment.

Bottom Row (From left to right)

Willow Tree Shepard and Stable Animals
I started the nativity collection last year by purchasing Joseph and Mary (holding baby Jesus) and this year I would love to add the Shepard and some animals.

Bath and Body Works Body Balm "Too Shea"
This is my favorite lotion and the thick body balm is prefect for my dry winter skin!

Original Packable Tour Rain Boot (Blue Lily, Size 8)
These are a total splurge item.  Everyone raves about Hunter boots and someday I would love to own a pair. The "Tour" boots seems awesome b/c they literally fold up so you can easily pack them.

Tieks by Gavrieli - Gold Ballet Flat (Size 8)
These too are a total splurge item.  They were on Oprah's favorite things list so they must be good right!? I love ballet flats and if these are as comfortable as they say I would wear them everyday!

So there you have it! Hopefully Santa will be good to me.  Oh and for those who don't like to shop I am always accepting of gift cards.  Sephora, Elizabeth Grady, Mini Luxe, and Target are always useful!

What is on your wish list this year?  Anything I've mentioned above?!?

Did you go shopping today?  Did you score and good Black Friday deals?

Photos by Rachel of Voyage Photography Studio

Remember a few weeks ago when I told you about my blate with Rachel?  She took some photos of me and despite it seeming like a mild fall day as soon as we were ready to start the wind picked up and it was freezing!

So of course my hair is a bit crazy in several of the photos.  I don't know about you but I seem to find something "wrong" with me in most photos of myself.  I did manage to find many that I like and a few that I love from the photos Rachel took of me!

Rachel is a great photographer and we had so much fun.  Next time we will have to make sure the weather is a bit more cooperative.  Check out Rachel's work on her photography website, Voyage Photography Studio.

I really love the color of this shirt but after seeing it in photos I don't think it was the best think to wear. The color looks great but the style of it makes me look like I have stomach rolls!  It was rouched on the sides so I feel like it didn't lay right in may of the photos.  Oh well!

Which is your favorite????

The Dog vs. The Toy

Who do you think won?

This is Neely.  My brother's dog.  She looks sweet and innocent here but let me tell you she can tear up a toy in less than 5 minutes and never look back!

One day a while back I was hanging out at my brother's house doing some laundry.  Nobody was home but Neely and I.  I wanted an ice coffee so I took her for a ride in the car to get one.  When we got home I noticed the dog toy I had been given at Blissdom months earlier.  I had kept forgetting to bring it to her.  So I finally gave it to her and she was SO excited.

She took several laps around the front yard and wanted me to play chase with her.  I was not having it.

She "played" with her new toy for about 2 minutes and then was ready to go into the house to tear it to shreds.  Little did I know that should would be able to do this to a brand new toy that seemed pretty sturdy!

I went into the other room to switch over my laundry and returned to this.  It didn't take her long at all and she was quite proud of herself.  But she wasn't done. . .

She had that toy in pieces, including the tennis ball!

I picked up all the pieces before she ate them and threw them in the trash.  RIP my little friend!

Clearly Neely was exhausted from all of that hard work.  She didn't move for an hour!  Ha!

Moral of the story.  Glad I got this toy for free.  Note to self: don't spend a lot of money on dogs toys for Neely b/c they only survive 5 minutes!!!!

Bloggers Can Paint

Friday night I got together with some of my favorite bloggers for a night of painting at The Paint Bar on Newbury Street in Boston.  Anyone who has read my blog for a while knows that I've been to The Paint Bar MANY times including two times for The Bean Team MS fundraisers.  The Paint Bar was the first in Boston and in my opinion they are the best!  We had so much fun!

When we got there we had to gather our supplies. . . paint and wine (of course)!  If you don't like your painting while working on it just have another drink and it will look better!  Just be careful not to confuse your wine cup and your dirty paint water cup!

I always like to show the progression of my paintings.  People never think they will be able to do one of these paintings.  The teachers at The Paint Bar are excellent.  Jackie took us step by step through the painting and everyone did a great job.  I must say I think this is my favorite one I've done so far.

Not bad if I do say so myself!  Too bad I don't have any wall space in my apartment to hang any of my beautiful masterpieces!  You can see Jackie, the teacher's painting, in the background.

During a break to let our paintings dry a bit we had some fun takings candids.  Emily and LB on the left and Rachel and I on the right.

Kate was suppose to join us too but went home sick from work and didn't feel well enough to come.  We missed you Kate!

I love how everyone's painting looks a little different but all beautiful!  We had so much fun.  It is always great to hang out with my bloggy friends.

Have you been to The Paint Bar yet?  What are you waiting for?  Sign up for a class.  You won't regret it!  They have locations on Newbury Street in Boston and in Newton.  Check out there calendar to see upcoming paintings on the schedule.

Let's Go To The Movies. . .

Did you read that title in a singing voice?  As in "Let's go to the movies, let's go see the stars."  If you don't know that song is from Annie then we can't be friends anymore.  Anyways. . . back to the topic of this blog post. . . I've seen three movies in the last couple of weeks and they were all very good so I wanted to share in case you are thinking of seeing any!

GRAVITY is so good but SO tense!  I felt like I needed a massage after watching it.  I saw it in 3D and almost chocked when she told me it was $14 for a matinee.  But I will say it was worth it.  Very cool seeing people float (and free fall) in space.  Sandra Bullock was great in this especially since she was pretty much the only actor in the entire movie.  Yup George Clooney was in it but only a bit and one other guy was in it for a few.  Smallest cast ever for an action film?  Maybe.  Good entertainment but stressful!!  Oh and I still don't really get why we spend so much money to send people into space.  Seems way to dangerous!

ABOUT TIME is charming.  That really is the best word and the first thing that popped into my head when I was done watching this movie.  Charming. Simply charming.  I really enjoyed it. I love Rachel McAdams and she was adorable as usual.

CAPTAIN PHILLIPS is phenomenal!  I loved it. I love movies that are based on true stories.  This story is incredible and while I knew it was a "happy" ending with Captain Phillips being rescued I still didn't know the full story of what he and the others went through.  Two things: Tom Hanks better get nominated for a bunch of Best Actor awards and the US Navy is freaking awesome!  You must see this movie.

Next up on my "To See" list?

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE Of course this is a must see! Duh!  I loved the books and the first movie so I have high hopes for this movie especially since the second book was my favorite of the three!  I'm not seeing it opening weekend for two reasons - I hate being in full/packed theatres with a bunch of teenyboppers talking/laughing/crying during a movie and I'm going with my aunt and the first date that works for us is Dec 1st. So there ya have it!  No spoilers please.

PHILOMENA This movie is right up my alley.  It is British and it about adoption.  As a former adoption social worker, adoption will always hold a special place in my heart. In this movie a birth mother searches for the son she placed for adoption.  Oh and it is based on a true story which as mentioned above I love.

DALLAS BUYERS CLUB This movie has a great cast - Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner and Jared Leto (hello hottie from My So-Called Teenage Life).  Oh looky here another movie based on true events. . . I'm sensing a theme here!  I heard from a friend that this movie is outstanding and that was enough for me.  I'm seeing it!

I LOVE holiday season/pre-award show season because there are so many good movies that come out.  Last year I tried to see all the Academy Award nominated movies and I came really close.  This year I'm going to try again!

Let me know if you've seen any movies that aren't on my list that are a must see!

P.S. The popcorn at the movie theatre is healthy right?!

Fashion Plates 2013

Another year of Fashion Plates has come and gone.  It was wonderful as always!  I'm still waiting for the professional photos from the actual fashion show but until then here are my iPhone candids from behind the scenes.

I loved all three of my outfits this year.  My pictures aren't that great because the flash on my iPhone wasn't turned on and the lighting in the room was weird. But you can get the idea of each look.  All the clothes are from Ports and Company which is a fabulous store on the South Shore.

The getting ready part is SO much fun.  Makeup artists and hair stylists from Salon Red and Spa in Boston donate their time to make us all look beautiful.

They had about two hours to get seventeen models ready for the big event.  It is always a little hectic but they always get it done.  Everyone was looking very "runway" with some crazy hair styles including me!

I asked for "curls" and I got big hair that was very teased!  I don't think the stylist really gets my personality because he always wants to do wild hair on this girl.  Who knew my hair could get THAT big?! I didn't love it since I was looking for something a bit more glam but I went with it since it is a fashion show.

Right before the start of the fashion show Lisa and Lori, our emcees and Tami and Danielle, committee members, came backstage to wish us luck with a toast.  Then I had a few minutes to take candids of the models in their first outfits.

I am so honored to be a part of this event.  The models are all amazing women with MS. It is so nice to get to know everyone and hear bits and pieces of their stories.  I love that this event is about real people.  I love that we are all living life to the fullest and not letting MS keep us down!

Each model walks the runway alone three times (once in each outfit) and then for the finale all the models go out on the runway together (still in our third outfit).  This was right before the finale.  Unfortunately there isn't a lot of time to take photos backstage once the show starts but this was a quick fun one!

The first time each model walks the runway one of the emcees, Lori Grande, reads a "bio" about that woman.  In addition a slide of the person is up on two big screens on either side of the stage. We are able to select a quote and photos to put on our slide.  I've changed my photos and quote each year just to keep things fresh!

Right before the finale a winner for each raffle basket was selected.  Despite buying six tickets I did not win. I was really hoping I might win since I've been lucky recently with winning raffles.  The baskets were AWESOME and I hope each of the winners really enjoys their loot.  I'm dying to know if the "Strike It Rich" basket ($1,000 in scratch tickets) winner won any money.  Wouldn't it be fun if he/she won big bucks!?

After the finale all the models leave the runway to greet their family and friends.  I'm so thankful to have had such a supportive cheering squad at my table.  Thank you mom, Aunt Cathy, Aunt Nancy, Katelyn and Emily.  It means so much to me that you were all there!

I said goodbye to them and took the stage for our annual committee photo.  While we were waiting for everyone to get there I had a chance to grab a photo with my friend Ilka (left) and my friend Missy (right).  The center is Missy, Danielle, Ilka and me.  We are all on the committee!

Then it is time for the after party!  Piper is always so generous to open up her home to us.  We went back for some food and more champagne!  It was so fun to chat with everyone about the show.

That's a wrap!!!  Another Fashion Plates is in the books.  Oh and by the way it was the biggest one yet with almost 600 guests in attendance.  I can't wait to hear how much money we raised.

Professional photos hopefully coming this week and I'll do another blog posts with those so keep an eye out!
