Weekend on Block Island

Well looky here. . . I'm actually blogging.  You would think walking 50 miles last week would have left my legs tired not my fingers!  I can't wait to blog about the MS Challenge Walk but I had such a busy week and was exhausted each day after work which left no time for blogging.

Then this weekend I took advantage of a weekend to go to Block Island and I'm so glad I did.  When you see the pictures you will understand.  Such a beautiful place.  I really can't believe I had never been there before.

So enjoy living vicariously through me and pretend like you were on Block Island too.  I'll even share my fudge!

I'm hoping to be back to blogging a bit more regularly now that summer is over but September hasn't proven to be any slower yet so we shall see.  I will get my Challenge Walk recap up this week - I promise!

This was my first trip to Block Island.  These pictures are taken from the ferry while waiting to leave.  We took the 9AM ferry Saturday morning and it was a chilly start to the day.  So glad I had a hooded sweatshirt!

Here we are pulling into Block Island.  It was warming up and I was filled with excitement to explore this beautiful place. I had no idea what to expect but I was ready for shopping and exploring!

I am so lucky to have Missy as a friend (and not just because she has a house on Block Island). She is the sweetest and most generous lady! We volunteer together on the Fashion Plates Committee (the committee that organizes the MS Fashion Show) and we met a couple years ago.  She is always talking about Block Island since she spent her summers there as a kid and still goes frequently.

Above is her house which is so pretty and in the most awesome location (a 5 minute walk from the ferry and downtown).  Oh and her view. . . check that out.  Top photo is Sat and bottom photo is Sunday.  The view is stunning.  They rent their house out most of the summer so this was the first opportunity Missy had to go and bring a friend (and I'm the lucky duck she chose)!!!

After we dropped off our stuff we hit the shops.  We had so much fun walking through town and checking out all the cute stores.  Oh and we stimulated the island economy a little too.  After shopping we hit the beach.  We both needed a nap!  This was my view when we got out of the car.  So pretty!

After hanging out (aka napping) on the beach for a bit we got ready for happy hour and dinner.  We picking up one of Missy's friends who was also on the island for the weekend and they showed me around a bit.  We stopped at one of the two lighthouses on the island, the Southeast Lighthouse.  I love lighthouses and this was did not disappoint!  So pretty with gorgeous views all around.

We went to The Oar for a pre-dinner drink.  I of course had sangria and let me tell you it was the most delicious sangria ever (despite the plastic cup I had to drink it out of).  And since Missy knows everyone on the island (seriously) she of course knew the bartender and the recipe for the sangria.  So guess who will be making some soon.  Who's coming over?!  Anyways back to The Oar. . . very cool place with great views of the sunset.  Get ready for sunset photo overload (you've been warned).

After enjoying the beautiful sunset and our drinks we headed out to dinner.  We went to Winfield's for dinner.  It was delicious!  After dinner we went to Harry's, Poor People's Pub, and Captain Nick's but don't worry we didn't have drinks at all of them! Oh and I ran into a friend from work who was on the island for her brother's wedding!

Sunday morning, after sleeping in a bit, we ventured out to see the other lighthouse, the North Lighthouse.  It was another gorgeous day (like top 10 day). We walked the beach to get to the lighthouse and all I could think about was how lucky I am.  I mean seriously. . . hanging out on Block Island on a gorgeous weekend with a great girlfriend. . . what could be better!?

Driving back to the downtown we passed through this area.  I had to stop and get out of the car because it looked just like Ireland!  Seriously if you dropped me here w/o telling me where I was I would guess Ireland.  SO gorgeous!  There is a walking trail that heads down to the ocean.

We went back to the downtown area to finish up some shopping.  I can't believe I didn't take any pictures of the downtown area.  It is adorable! Probably a good thing I didn't take any pics of it since this post already has like 12,000!!!!  I had spotted this wall when we got off the ferry and I knew I had to get back over to it. Isn't it awesome!?  I love it!

And when I said we had to finish up some shopping I really mean I needed to buy more fudge.  I had bought 1/4 pound on Saturday and ate it in about 5 minutes flat along with a bag of penny candy - it was my healthy lunch.  The fudge was SO good and I had to get more today.  Don't worry I didn't eat it. . . yet!

Oh and check out those crazy gummy candies.  The frog was giant and who would ever think to make a gummy chicken foot???  I had to buy one of each just to show you guys!!

Are last stop of the day was at Manisses Animal Farm.  Anyone who knows me knows I love animals and never pass up a chance to see/feed them!  This little farm was adorable.  It is free and it has a bunch of cool animals (oh and the animals have beautiful views of the island)!

This camel was definitely posing for the photos.  He kept doing funny smiles and showing off his teeth!

This farm is located on the property of the Manisses Hotel which is so pretty.  This is the "backyard" which is just steps from the animals.  The whole area is so nice.

And then all good things must come to an end! :(

Do you like my Block Island sweatshirt?  I love it and had to wear it on the windy ferry ride back.

I had such a wonderful weekend.  It was so nice to explore someplace new and to spend time with Missy.  We had such a fun time and made the most of the beautiful weather by spending the entire weekend outside.

Block Island is now on my "favorite places" list and I hope to get back for another visit next summer!  Have you been?

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  Make sure to check back soon for my Challenge Walk blog post (or posts)!

This is exactly what I picture when I think of a quaint NE seaside village. It looks like the most peaceful place on earth. For some reason the camel made me crack up. I just keep thinking of the Geico hump day commercial lol!!

Every weekend I am always so jealous of the photos you post. So beautiful, and I love that in between all the busyness of life, you always find a way to go and explore someplace!

Glad you and Missy had a great time, and I can't wait to read about the 50 mile walk! Hope your feet (and the rest of you!) have fully recovered!
