Weekend Recap: Katie and Donny's Wedding

My weekend recap will be in two parts.  This is part 1 - Katie and Donny's Wedding.

Part 2 will come tomorrow and will be about visiting Elon and seeing college friends.

Sure signs of a great weekend is needing two blogs post to recap it and being too tired on Monday to post about it!  Haha!

On Friday morning I flew to North Carolina for the beginning of a fabulous long weekend. . .

Rehearsal Dinner

The out of town guests were invited to the rehearsal dinner.  I was excited about this b/c it meant I could meet Katie in real life prior to the wedding.  For those of you who don't know I "met" Katie through blogging a couple of years ago.  This was the first time we met in real life.

I also met Rachel through blogging (I think through Katie) and this was my first time meeting her as well.

 Ceremony

The chapel was beautiful.  It was small and intimate and perfect for the size of their wedding.  I loved all the windows.  The chapel was so pretty it really didn't need any extra decorations!

The ceremony was really nice.  The pastor was so sincere when he spoke to Katie and Donny.  He smiled a lot and seemed genuinely happy for them.  I really liked him.  Oh and he reminded me a little of Aidan from Sex in the City! Ha!

Reception

The reception location was beautiful!  The weather was gorgeous too.  I think my favorite thing was the mashed potato bar!  I love mashed potatos and I think they taste even better out of a martini glass.

Cake

The cake was simple and pretty.  The best part was the very personalized topper.  Even though Katie is from NC for some (strange) reason she is a Yankees fan.  And of course with Donny being from Dallas he is a Rangers fan.  So the "Katie" and the "Donny" on the cake wore their favorite team's shirts.  Too cute!

Friends

It was so much fun spending time with Katie and Rachel on the dance floor.  We had a lot of fun!  I also got to meet several of Katie and Donny's Texas friends who made the trip.  Monica, Kyrstal and Brandon were great and I felt like I knew them already too since we have followed each other on twitter for a long time.

After the newlyweds made their departure a bunch of us went to a bar/restaurant in downtown Winston for a drink.  It was only around 7 PM but we were all so tired that it felt MUCH later!  We only stayed out for a little while and then made our way back to the hotel.

My thought on meeting blog friends in real life (even at their wedding) = DO IT!

So a lot o f people would ask us how we knew Katie which is a pretty common question at a wedding.  Little did they know that we had met through blogging!  Always fun to see the looks you get after you give that answer.

Katie and Donny,
Thank you so much for inviting me to be a part of your special day!
Congratulations to you both.  Wishing you MANY years of happiness and may your only disagreements be over baseball.(Oh and if you want to solve that you can just both become Red Sox fans and root for the same team!) :)
Love, Jodi

P.S. If you also read Katie's blog please act surprised when she shares pictures of her wedding.  I feel like a spoiler by posting them before she gets back from her honeymoon.  Oh and if you don't read her blog you should!  It is great.
