Well I didn't win the lottery. . . who wants all the money anyways?!  Oh wait I do!  Maybe next time.  If you are one of the lucky winners in Arizona or Missouri and don't know how to spend your millions send me an email and I'll help you!

Anyways, I want to tell you about an awesome company.

Have you heard of them yet?  I attended an event the other night and learned all about what they do.

The best part. . . you only pay for the clothes you want. . . the personal shopper/stylist is FREE!  Good deal right?  So for all of you who don't have time to shop or just want to keep up with the latest fashions check out CAKESTYLE.

CAKESTYLE is offering my blog readers 10% off your first box with the code Boston10.
So what are you waiting for?

I had the opportunity to meet co-founder, Cecelia and stylist, Kate at the event while sipping champagne and eating cupcakes.  Sounds good right?!  I even got to take home this gorgeous necklace after donating one of my necklaces which will be given to Dress for Success.  I think it is awesome that CAKESTYLE is giving back and working with Dress for Success.

If you decide to try them out make sure you let me know and I would love to see pictures of the clothes they send you!

Have you ever used a personal shopper?  I think this would be SO much fun!

Feeling Lucky!

If you don't hear from me for a while its probably b/c I've won Powerball and am off spending my millions!

I can dream right!?

Wouldn't it be so awesome to win all that money?

For the first time in my life I bought a lottery ticket (well 2 actually).
I'm also in a big pool at work w/ many colleagues!  Hoping on of these tickets wins big!

Are you playing?

Christmas Cards: To Send or Not To Send?

That is the question.  The question I am debating in my mind right now.  I've always been inconsistent when it comes to sending Christmas cards.  I LOVE getting them especially the photo cards from all my friends with children.  This gal has no husband and no children and something about sending a picture of me alone just seems awkward!  Ha!

The past two years I got (somewhat) creative and did photo cards that were a "review" or "best of" for the year.  I really liked both of them.  This is what they looked liked (sorry for the terrible photos).

I like sending Christmas cards.  It is another chance to thank all of my donors from that year, it is a chance to keep in touch with former adoptive couple clients, and it is fun to send holiday cheer to all of my friends and family BUT. . . I'm just not sure what to do this year.

I'm just not feeling the creative juices flowing.  I'm not really feeling the energy.  Trying to motivate but it just isn't happening. . .yet.  There is still time.  So that is where you come in.  Send me your ideas!

A twitter friend suggested a "Year in Numbers" which I think is cute but haven't really figured out a way to execute it (especially since I like to use Shutterfly to make my cards).

What can this husbandless and childless girl do?  I know there are SO many creative bloggers out there so I can't wait to hear from you with some great ideas!

Are you sending Christmas cards this year?  Do you do a photo card?

Peyton's Birthday Party

It was a wonderful 4 day weekend.  If only every weekend could last that long!  I've already blogged about Thanksgiving and Black Friday so if you missed that post go here to read it.  I may have scored a pair of FREE tall black boots on Friday!!!!  Best Black Friday ever!!!

Saturday started out with more shopping. . . errands really.  It was busy but good.  I then made my way to the hometown for Peyton's 5th Birthday party.  How is it possible that this child is going to be 5 years old on Friday??!!

The birthday girl was was on cloud 9 and seemed to enjoy all of the attention that the party brought.  Here are some pictures. . .

The many faced of Peyton. . . she came up with the poses all on her own!  Oh to be 5!

Adorable butterfly cake made by Jenn!

Peyton had tons of fun with her cousins and bitty baby was there too!

Princess Ella was there too.

Neely decided that she would make friends with Scott (since Grampy wasn't there)!

I think she was exhausted at this point but had to get a picture together right before I left.

This is one way to get an expression out of her. . . she loves to make funny faces!

After the party I had a wild night at my parent's house doing laundry and watching the ND game.  I can tell you that a particular family member of mine is VERY happy that they won.  I wouldn't have wanted to be around him if that hadn't been the outcome!!

Sunday was a lazy day.  I had big intentions of going to Target, cleaning, organizing, etc, etc.  Let me tell you, none of it happen.  Instead a lot of lounging and Lifetime Christmas movie watching happen.

Now it is back to work and I have a busy week ahead of me.  Let's hope the snow the weather man was talking about this morning was just a joke.  I'm so not ready for the white stuff.

Thanksgiving and Black Friday

I am thankful for so many things this year (and every year).  Too many things to list them all. . . my family, friends, health, job, home. . . and so much more.

It is always great to stop and think about all I have and give thanks.

My aunt and uncle hosted Thanksgiving again this year.  A few family members were missing (my brother and his family and my cousin and his family) but the rest of us managed to have a great time anyways!  We ate a delicious dinner and yummy pies for dessert.

Oh and don't forget the after dinner shot!  Yup you read that right.  Some years ago my uncle started serving shots after dinner and this  year was a new one - it was blue!  I didn't really like it as much as the one last year but still fun!

We stuck w/ tradition and played a game after dinner - "Left, Right, Center."  Have you played?  It is so much fun.  We played twice and I didn't win either time!  Oh well it was still fun.  We play for money which makes it even more fun!

My aunt and cousin go shopping on Black Friday every year.  They get up at 4 AM.  I've always thought they were crazy for getting up so early.  Then I got this email and thought it might just be worth it to go out for a little shopping myself. . .

I got up at 6 AM and made my way to Off Broadway Shoes.  There were a few people in line when I arrived at 6:35 for the 7 AM opening.  On the way into the store we each got to reach into a bag and grab a coupon. . .

Much to my surprise I picked the one for a FREE pair of shoes!!!!  OMG!
So happy and so excited!  I contained myself though since I didn't want anyone to know.  I've seen how crazy those Black Friday shoppers can get!

I made my way to the tall black boots since that was my reason for coming in the first place.  The selection was small but I ended up finding 2 pairs I really liked.  I wish I had someone w/ me to give opinions b/c I had to settle for a stranger. . . I went w/ this pair and I like them a lot.  They were on sale for $89 and I didn't pay anything for them.  So fun!

Since I was up and out I figured I would do a little more shopping.  I went to the mall and although the parking lot was pretty full I found a space pretty quickly and made my way in.  It was all decorated for Christmas!

I wasn't really Christmas shopping.  I was Jodi shopping.  Just keeping it real.  My 2 favorite stores - The Limited and The Loft were having 50% off the whole store in the morning so I did well.  But this dress is one thing you will never find in my closet!  I'm not a cat lover anyways but even if I was I don't think I would be caught dead in this dress.  You? Cat lovers? Anyone?

I got GREAT deals on some beautiful clothes - things I can wear to work and things I can wear during the holiday season!  Very exciting!

Much to my surprise I saw some half naked "models" while walking the mall.  Not one store but two!  Am I just old or is this a little strange to anyone else?  Shirtless in the winter?  Selling bathing suits in Nov?  Hmmm. . .
After all my hard work I knew I deserved a pinkberry.  I hadn't had one in a long time and it was so good especially since I was so hot from being in the mall.

{Never mind the fact that it was before noon when I got it and I didn't even know if they would be open that early!}

I didn't only buy myself presents. . . I actually picked up Peyton and my mom's birthday presents.

When I got home I took a nap!  It was great.  I also made some Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies.  I can't wait to eat some!

How was your Thanksgiving?

Did you score any good Black Friday deals??

I wrote a full recap on Fashion Plates so go here to read that if you missed it.

Here are some of the photos from ASA Photographic.  They did an amazing job and I'm so glad they capture so many runway shots!

There were close to 500 people there this year.  The room was packed and looked great!

This is my slide that came up each time I walked the runway.

Weekend Recap

This weekend will be known as the first weekend in a really long time that I went out on Friday AND Saturday night.  Sad but true.  I had good reasons with a different friend in town visiting each night!

Friday night I picked Taylor up at South Station on my way home from work.  She had taken the bus down from Maine.  She was flying home to Lake Tahoe yesterday but stayed with me on Friday night so we could go out.

We made our way downtown and we're so happy to see Boston in the Christmas spirit a little early this year!  Everything looked so pretty.

I had such a busy day at work on Friday that I never got to eat lunch so needless to say I was starving by the time we got to the restaurant.  I went for a very healthy choice of chicken mac and cheese. Ha!  It was so good!

While at dinner Taylor got up to go to the bathroom.  She grabbed her phone.  I said, "Don't bring your phone to the bathroom, you might drop it in the toilet."  {I spoke from experience}

Well a few minutes later she came back and showed me her phone which was a blank white screen.  She said, "I can't believe it but I just dropped my phone in the toilet!"

Seriously.  She did.  I couldn't help it.  I laughed.  I mean really what are the odds!?

Been there.  Done that.  It sucks but the good news was that she was due for an upgrade and was able to get an iPhone 4s the next day.

We had a really fun night (despite the phone in the toilet incident).  She tells me she is moving back to Boston in the spring.  I don't want to get my hopes up so I'll believe it when I see it.  (Although rumor has it that she is smitten with that new baby nephew and he just happens to live very close by to me)!

Saturday I went to Noelle's baby shower.  Her baby boy is due to arrive in January!  The shower was really nice and she got a lot of great gifts.  Oh and how great does she look?  You can't even tell she is pregnant in that dress!

Saturday night I went back downtown to hang out with another friend who was visiting for the weekend.  Cathy was in town from Buffalo and a bunch of us went to dinner at Nix's Mate.  It was REALLY good.

I had the Sunday Bloody Sunday cocktail.  It was just ok - a little strong tasting and not sweet enough.

I then had the Mama Nevin's Tomato Soup for a starter and it was delicious.  Then for an entree I had the Roasted Half Chicken which was so good.  I would definitely recommend it.

We went to an Irish Pub after dinner and it was a lot of fun.  It was nice to catch up with Cathy and the other girls too.  Only downside to the night. . . I lost my new black infinity scarf and it was only the 2nd time I had worn it.  Major bummer!

So you are wondering what I did on Sunday???

SLEPT!  Yup pretty much what I did ALL day!

I stayed in bed and caught up on all my shows that were on the DVR.  It was wonderful!

Great weekend with great friends.  Now it is a 3 day work week which is the best news EVER!

Really looking forward to Thanksgiving on Thursday!!!

I don't know about you but I'm very happy that Friday has finally arrived!  Not having Monday off while many others did was pretty painful.  Somehow I've survived the week and I'm very much looking forward to a jam packed weekend.

Today I wanted to catch you up on a few events I've been to this week and share some other random stuff.  Yes stuff.  I'm tired and that it the fanciest word I can come up with right now!

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Last night I went to a preview party at nau on Newbury Street with Jen and Kerri.  We got to check out the clothes and meet the staff.  They have some great stuff especially the jackets.  Next time you are looking to buy a new jacket check them out!

After the nau party we stopped by Bridier Baubles trunk show.  We got to meet the owner, Kerri, who is very sweet and very pregnant!  We check out all the gorgeous jewels on display!  You can find everything on their website so check it out.  You will find great statement necklaces for reasonable prices!  I love my britta beads!!

Wednesday night I ventured over to The Yard House in Fenway for a Hole in the Wall Gang Alumni event.  This was the second time I've gone to an alumni event and it was a lot of fun.  Many of the people there were former staff and new each other well due to that (I was a volunteer for one session several years ago).  Everyone was really nice and it is always great to be around people who believe in the importance of camp for kids as much as I do!

 Today is National Adoption Day!!!!
As a former adoption social worker I always like to remember this day.  It is such an important day for so many children.  Adoption helps to make so many people become parents and gives so many children families.  It is such a great day to celebrate.

In other news I think I've become a coffee drinker and not for the taste.  My friends, I'm only drinking it for the small jolt of energy it gives me to make it through the work day.  I'm still not a coffee lover but ya gotta do what ya gotta do to survive.  Somehow I've made it this long w/o being caffeine dependent but lately I'm exhausted all.the.time.  The worst time of day is the drive home from work.  The MS fatigue and I are not good friends.  I'm hating the decrease in energy.  Hoping for a change in energy level very soon!  Until then I will continue w/ my new found fondness for coffee.  I may even try Starbucks for the first time ever.  Haha!

Ok I think that is enough randomness for one day.

Weekend Recap: Visiting Elon

Yes I realize it is Wednesday and I'm still recapping my weekend. . . but it was a good weekend and it deserved two posts!  If you missed Part 1 where I recapped Katie and Donny's Wedding go here to read it!

I left Boston bright and early Friday morning.  I landed in Raleigh, picked up my rental car, and was off to Elon!  I hadn't been to visit since 2008 and I knew a lot had changed so I couldn't wait to see campus.

I loved being a college student at Elon.  It was an awesome experience on a beautiful campus.  I loved living there.  I was appreciative to be able to spend four years someplace so amazing.  Well let me tell you. . . wasn't sure it was possible but Elon is even better and more beautiful now!  Wow!

It was so fun to walk around campus.  It was a beautiful day and things were quiet.  There are still some colorful leaves on the trees too!

I love how well the new and the old buildings blend together.
Top left: West Residence Hall (aka oldest building on campus and where I lived freshman year).
Top right: Moseley Center (taken from across the street in while standing in front of Alamance).
Bottom left: Alamance (view from street)
Bottom right: The new business school (which is pretty fancy if you ask me and that fountain reminds me of something that would be in Vegas or at a fancy hotel! Ha!)

Lower campus is under a lot of construction.  When it is all done I'm sure it will be amazing.  They knocked down Harper Center (where I lived sophomore year), Staley, Moffit and the dining hall.  It looks so weird with nothing there!  I have a lot of good memories in that Maynard Suite!!

More new stuff. . .
Top left: Firehouse field is no longer a field.  It is not a colorful apartment complex.
Top right: The game room in Moseley is now a cute little coffee shop.
Bottom left: More construction - there is going to be a huge building coming off the lake side of Moseley.
Bottom right: Jordan Center is gone (Praise the Lord) and now there are much nicer resident halls.

Elon has their own chapel now!  It is so pretty.  It is located in the area where Elon Homes for Children use to be.  Along with a driving ranger/golf course, the Alumni House and a couple of other things but not sure what they are.  Developing this area has really extended campus.  It would be a long walk from here to the lake!

Ok now onto the really important things. . . the two bars!  Ha!  The Lighthouse is no longer.  Hopefully this new establishment is a big nicer.  West End is still there although it did look a bit different to me.  No more Side Tracks Restaurant but The Root looks very cute and I've heard it is owned by Elon alum!

The new bookstore is really nice and HUGE!  It has an escalator!  It is located on the street where College Coffee use to be (sorry I'm blanking on the name right now).  There are several other new restaurants and shops including this cute little "greek" shop where you can get everything your hearts desires for your sorority!

So there you have it.  A little tour of good old Elon.  What do you think!?
I love all the additions.  I think it really makes the school that much better.  I think they have done a good job at keeping the Elon charm which is important to me.  I'd go there all over again if given the option! :)

After spending the morning at Elon I drove on and was able to meet us w/ Amber and her kids.  She just so happen to be driving from Atlanta to NC to visit her dad for his birthday.  We both had to go through the same area so we met up in Greensboro for some frozen yogurt.  How cute is this place!?  Sweet Frog I think it was called.  You know my love for froyo so I was happy to stop for a short visit.

It was great to catch up w/ Amber and to finally meet Patrick who is one.  Eva is such a character and has grown up so much since the last time I saw her.

I left and made my way to Winston for the wedding events.  You can read about that in my previous post!

On Sunday I was able to meet up w/ another college friend.  Molly and I were next door neighbors our freshman year.  We stayed friends throughout college and since mostly through Facebook.  I hadn't seen her since graduation so it was so nice to meet up for lunch in person.

She brought her adorable daughter Logan who is one.  This picture doesn't do her justice (by the way stole this off FB b/c I felt too dorky to take a pic in Chipolte).  She is so sweet and cute.  She just sat in the high chair for 2 hours while Molly and I caught up.

It was so nice to visit Elon and catch up w/ some old friends.  Elon holds MANY special memories for me.  So grateful that I got to spend four years there making them.  Can't imagine what campus will look like the next time I make it back there!
