The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp

Did you ever go to summer camp when you were a kid?
Was it the MOST fun you had all summer?
Camp songs, swimming, arts and crafts, s'mores. . .

Several years ago (2003 I think?) I had the most amazing opportunity.
I volunteered for one week as a camp counselor at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.
Maybe you've heard of them?  Paul Newman?
Well let me tell you this camp is AWESOME!

In case you don't know it is for children who have a variety of medical issues.
I volunteered during the sickle cell anemia session.
I had as much fun as the kids did.
It is a magical place.
Where "sick" kids can be "regular" kids.

The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is celebrating their 25th anniversary!

I've always loved Natalie Merchant's "Wonder" and now I love it even more.  Watch this video of the campers singing a special version of the song.  Love it!

I'm so thankful that I had the opportunity to volunteer at such an amazing place.  I only wish I had a digital camera back then so I could share some pictures with you!

There are now 25 camps throughout the world!

Kids everywhere can experience the fun of summer camp
even if they have a serious medical illness.

Pretty cool!
