This was our view from the ferry in Hyannis. Not looking too good right?! Well luckily the weather changed a lot (like it typically does on the Cape). We left Boston at 6 AM (so early but worth it) and took the 8 AM fast ferry to Nantucket which got us there at 9 AM leaving us with a whole day to explore.

After our
First stop (after a 3 mile - part cobblestone street - uphill ride) was at Cisco Brewers. This place is very cool because they have three things in one location - vodka, wine and beer. They also have a big picnic area with corn hole and live music! Oh and as you can see from the picture (bottom right) a lot of people rides bikes on Nantucket.
We decided to do the wine tasting. For $10 you get to taste all 10 of their wines and keep the glass. Don't worry they were very small tastes (no drunk cycling here). They also have red and white sangria and a blueberry lemonade. Yum! After our tasting Missy and Ilka tried the beer while I enjoyed a glass of sangria. We had a great time hanging out!
We continued our bike ride down the road to the local farm that had a fancy grocer store. We grabbed some sandwiches and chips and sat outside and ate. They had beautiful gardens including a field of sunflowers. They were too far for me to get a pic so you have to settle for these other flowers. Oh and check out that Oreo cookie cow. Too cute! I love cows and had to stop to get a picture.

We got back into town and dropped off our bikes. We walked around Main Street and went into some stores. We were good and sweaty! It really was the most gorgeous day. Blue sky and tons of sun with a slight breeze = perfect!
Unfortunately all good things come to an end. We had to catch a 6 PM ferry but stopped for an ice cream first! We couldn't leave the island without sampling the ice cream!
As soon as we got on the ferry the weather changed. It was just like the weather in the morning. It was the strangest thing. It was overcast and gray! I never would have believed the weather could change so quickly and so dramatically unless I had seen it myself!
As the ferry was pulling out of the island I grabbed some photos of the lighthouse and coast line. Still pretty even with the gray sky!
We made it back to Hyannis at 7 PM and drove home. Surprisingly there was no traffic going over the bridge but then we hit a bunch closer to Boston. We still made good time and we were home by 9! A very long day but a great day.
I'm so glad that we made this spontaneous decision to take a day trip to Nantucket. I only hope I can have a few more fun summer day trips before the end of August!
What did you do this weekend??
