Neurologist Appointment

So I know I've been missing from the blog world lately and I promise I will catch up by this weekend. I've really been struggling w/ fatigue lately and just haven't had the energy to write. I do have a few great posts planned including a long update about the MS Challenge Walk on the Cape from this past weekend!

Anyways just a quick update about my neurologist appointment today. First of all I haven't seen my neurologist in 4 months which is the longest I've gone since being diagnosed so that is pretty exciting. AND I don't have to go back for another 6 months which is ever more exciting. Don't get me wrong I really like my neurologist but it is nice to know I'm doing well enough to not have to go in for a while!

The main thing we talked about today is the fatigue. Like the fact that I'm so tired I yawn all day long, or could fall asleep at work at any moment, or even after drinking a coffee I'm still exhausted, or can sleep for 10 hrs and still be tired all day long and so on and so forth. So I've finally decided to try medication to see if it will help. I've been against taking anything for the past 2 years as I wanted to try to manage it w/ lifestyle changes but even w/ those changes I'm still dealing w/ fatigue. So time to try something else. So we will see how Provigil works for me. I've heard from others w/ MS that it is a miracle drug so should be interesting. I seem to get every random side effect you can get from meds so I'm hoping that won't be an issue w/ this one. The good thing is that I don't have to take it everyday. So on weekends if I have more down time I can skip it. But if I have a long day of work and something after work I can take it in the am to help me through the day. I'll keep you posted.

Have any other MS'ers used it? Let me know how it works for you!

Everything else w/ my exam was great. I'm very lucky that Avonex continues to work well for me and that I have not had any relapses. I can't believe I'm approaching my 2 year anniversary!

  1. Sounds like you're doing well! I took provigil before but it didn't work for me. Doesn't mean it won't work for you!

  2. I have been taking Provigil for a couple of months now. I find that it is really good for the superficial effects of fatigue... i.e. you feel less tired. I don't find that it helps with the deeper symptoms like when your limbs are really heavy and tired - but it does enable me to be more effective in the day - although I'm hesitant that it is a long term solution.
